Mad Science Winterfest

Mad About Science

Rivermont students grade K-12 leap into the scientific realm with Mad Science Day hosted by the Science Station of Cedar Rapids and the annual Parents' Council Winterfest.

First, K-2nd grade scientist will be captivated by the bug loving Science Station program “Creepy Crawlers”. In this program young scholars explore the world of crawling, flying, wiggling, and squirming critters. While K-2nd grade scrutinize the land below, grades 3-5 focus their attention upwards and into the world of planetary science. The Science Station fascinates the mind of Rivermont’s young scientists with three planetarium programs: “Legends of Night”, “Iowa Skies”, and “Seasons of the Sun”.

Middle and Upper School kick off Mad Science day with a showing of the 2006 global warming documentary "An Inconvenient Truth”. Following this event will be a Break-Out Discussion and Physics Demonstration. Lastly, MS/US students will wrap up Mad Science Day by taking an in-depth look at Forensic Science, led by St. Ambrose’s Dr. Sarah Vordtriede.
